Ex-pat Brit and Texas resident
Mike Manners
took his Aquygen/Cosmo/Anglia backed
A/Fueller Top Alcohol Dragster to the runner up
position in the class. Manners faced Chris
Demke in the final at Las Vegas running a
5.390/270 to Demke’s winning 5.385/267
clocking. Manners’ luck was not quite so good at
the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona,
California in mid November, after qualifying
ninth with a 5.334/277 he faced eventual Lucas
Oil TAD Champion Duane Shields in round one
and despite a holeshot went up in smoke losing
with a 6.193/253 as Shields won with a
5.422/267.
Disillusioned with the FIA European tour,
Karsten
and
Per Andersen
have taken the decision to run their
Top Fueller in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series in the U.S. for next year and had Norway’s
Thomas Nataas
on board to enter both the Big O Tires NHRA Nationals at The Strip at the Las Vegas
Motor Speedway in October and the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in mid
November. The class was a tough one to enter at both events and despite giving it their all and
overcoming a couple of niggling mechanical items en route the team qualified in nineteenth position in a
twenty-seven car field at Las Vegas with a 3.918/308 best clocking and an eighteenth place at Pomona
with a best of 3.932/303 and unfortunately losing a fourth try due to Saturday’s rain which might have got
the team into the field.
